Three secondary school students – Vitória Figueiredo, 17 years old, from Viseu, Yasmin Dias, 16 years old, from Porto, and Nelson Santos, 16 years old, from Gondomar – participated in a research experience at the Faculty of Food Sciences and Nutrition of the University of Porto (FCNAUP), between August 31st and September 5th.
The young people wore the researchers' lab coats for a week to study the glycemic response of fruit consumed whole versus crushed fruit, a question that relates the way food is prepared with its effects on the body.
The initiative provided students with the opportunity to come into contact with scientific methods and an academic environment, allowing them to develop practical skills in the area of nutrition and food.
This experience is part of FCNAUP's summer activities, which regularly opens its doors to young secondary school students to bring them closer to the research work developed at the faculty.
