A PKP Intercity passenger train derailed after colliding with a concrete mixer truck at a level crossing in Poland on Wednesday. The accident occurred at around 11:20 a.m. local time in Sokolniki Suche, near Przysucha, about 100 kilometers south of Warsaw. The train was traveling from Lublin, in the country's east, to Szczecin, a port city in the north, with approximately 120 passengers on board. The collision caused the locomotive and six carriages to derail.
One passenger died in the accident and another 20 people were injured, four of whom are in serious condition. Among the injured are the two drivers involved in the collision and passengers. The truck driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed by firefighters from the State of Warsaw. Eight people with minor injuries were taken for medical treatment.
Images released after the accident show part of the composition lying on its side while emergency teams worked at the scene. Local authorities are still investigating the causes of the collision at the level crossing.
