Restructuring of Lusа "not in compliance" with the independent functioning of a public media outlet

The Regulatory Entity for the Media (ERC) issued an opinion on the restructuring of the Portuguese news agency Lisboa. In its view, this restructuring does not comply with the regulatory framework applicable to public media outlets. The ERC also considers that the process is not aligned with the recommendations and good practices that should govern the independent functioning of a public service media outlet. The regulatory body thus warned that the restructuring of the news agency does not guarantee the independence standards required by law for a public media outlet.
