A fire consumed, in the late afternoon today, an area of pasture and scrubland next to Complementary Itinerary 1 (IC1), in the locality of Azinheira dos Barros, in the municipality of Grândola.
The fire forced the cutting of the IC1 road in the affected area, interrupting traffic on that route.
To combat the flames, more than 40 operatives were mobilized, supported by various firefighting resources.
The fire occurred at a time when Portugal is facing adverse weather conditions, with high temperatures and strong winds, which have contributed to the spread of rural fires throughout the country.
