A documentary released this year brought to light the story of Angelique Robledo, a young woman who escaped being a victim of what is described as one of the rarest crimes in the world. The case happened in 2011, when Angelique was 18 years old and was pregnant with her first child.
In Maricopa, Arizona (USA), Angelique met Kassandra Toruga, and due to their simultaneous pregnancies, the two created an immediate bond. Angelique even told her friend that they could get through it together, according to an account published by the New York Post in 2022.
Over time, Kassandra's behavior became confusing and raised suspicions, especially because she claimed to be six months pregnant without showing abdominal volume compatible with that stage of pregnancy.
The situation reached a critical point in February of the same year, during a visit by Kassandra to Angelique's house. Even though she had missed the friend's baby shower, Kassandra showed up with gifts, but behaved unusually. At one point during the meeting, she asked Angelique to turn around and close her eyes to receive a surprise.
