The United States Treasury has increased its bond buyback program to $6 billion. This operation comes within the scope of a program launched by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, with the objective of reducing the costs associated with US sovereign debt.
The size of the buybacks represents three times the amount that had been initially communicated to investors, which reflects a significant escalation in the implementation of this strategy by the US administration.
However, despite the announcement, US debt interest rates reacted by rising, which indicates that investors were not convinced by the measure. This reaction suggests that the market maintained its concerns regarding the sustainability of United States debt.
