The Portuguese Air Force carried out today a medical transport mission between islands of the Madeira archipelago. The operation aimed to transport a patient who needed specialized medical care.
For this mission, a C-295M aircraft from Squadron 502, known by the name "Elefantes" (Elephants), was deployed. The squadron has a tradition in transport and medical support missions, being frequently called upon for this type of operations in the Portuguese islands.
The Madeira archipelago is composed of several islands, and medical transfers between them are frequently necessary when specialized care is not available locally. The Air Force plays a fundamental role in this type of medical evacuations due to its rapid response capability and range.
