The Brazilian Academy of Cinema chose on Wednesday (9) the six Brazilian films that will be on the shortlist competing for a spot to represent the country at the 2027 Oscars. The selection was made among eligible national films for the competition.

The list did not bring major surprises, with the two most favored films present among the chosen ones. They are "Feito Pipa," directed by Allan Deberton, and "Vicentina Pede Desculpas," by Gabriel Martins. Both were considered favorites for the nomination.

These six films now compete to be selected as the Brazilian representative in the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Oscars. The final decision on which production will represent Brazil will be made at a later date by the Academy.

"The Feiras Novas are a meeting point"

José Pedro Ribeiro Pereira, a 22-year-old young man from Fontão, won the contest to create the image for the Feiras Novas, a traditional pilgrimage in the Minho region. His proposal placed the woman of the Feiras Novas as the central figure, surrounded by a family sequence with the grandfather, the son, and the grandson, representing what, for José Pedro, distinguishes the pilgrimage: the people who come together. The young man, who has been drawing since childhood, did not expect the amount of positive reactions his work received, considering that this victory represents a step towards what he has wanted to do since he was little.
