Global warming reduces infrastructure lifespan by up to 25 years

A study conducted by researchers from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) in Spain and the Institute of Science and Engineering of Hunan in China reveals that global warming can reduce the lifespan of infrastructure by up to 25 years. The study, titled "presents a new model that assesses the effect of extreme temperatures on infrastructure durability and the impact of this deterioration on carbon emissions". The research was reported by the Spanish news agency EFE based on a UPV press release. The model developed by the researchers allows for the assessment of how extreme temperatures accelerate the deterioration process of infrastructure, which has significant implications for infrastructure planning and maintenance worldwide. This study comes in a context of growing concern about the effects of climate change on infrastructure and the carbon footprint associated with its construction and repair.
