The European Mobility Week 2026 takes place in the municipality of Sintra between September 16 and 22, with a program of initiatives to promote more sustainable, active and inclusive forms of transportation. Under the European theme "Mobility for all – Justice between generations" and the slogan "Sintrenses in Motion", the Municipality of Sintra promotes activities aimed at children, youth, families, senior population and school community, seeking to encourage public transport, walking and cycling and shared mobility solutions.
The program kicks off on September 16, at Casa da Cultura Lívio de Morais, in Mira Sintra, with the launch of European Mobility Week. From 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the "Sintra Green Experience" presents experimentation and awareness activities for sustainable mobility, followed at 5:30 PM by an Intergenerational Walking Tour that brings together school community, senior population, care homes and local associations.
On September 19, at 3:30 PM, the "Kidical Mass Sintra" takes place, a bike ride departing from Palácio da Vila, in Sintra, and arriving at Parque Municipal de Ouressa, in Mem Martins. The initiative is open to children, youth, families and the general public and aims to promote active mobility, road safety and socializing between generations.
The program also includes experiences with bicycles and other vehicles, the Ecokart EcoVoltas, "Stories from Grandmother Isabel Nabiça" and the "Maximum Sustainable Mobility Games". Three trishaws from Pedalar Sem Idade will provide rides to students with special educational needs and older family members. The Week culminates on September 22, European Car-Free Day, with a "School Bike Bus" at the Ferreira de Castro School Grouping, and activities continue until October 11 with a new edition of "Kidical Mass" in Colares.
