Italian customs seized a dried crocodile head from luggage at Turin-Caselle airport. The discovery was made by the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Turin, which intervened after the arrival of a passenger on a flight from Miami, with a stopover in Istanbul.
The man, who allegedly was returning from vacation, was carrying in his luggage a crocodile head belonging to the species Crocodylia spp. The specimen was wrapped in paper, in an apparent attempt to avoid controls in the country of departure.
The border authorities proceeded with the seizure of the specimen and reported the passenger. The man was accused of importing a specimen belonging to a species protected by the Washington Convention, without presenting the certificate or license necessary for the entry of the animal into Italian territory.
