IRS reduction announced by Montenegro will be accommodated in Madeira

Now9 September 2026 at 16:34

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced an IRS reduction that will be accommodated in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. This decision comes in the context of the fiscal autonomy that the region holds.

Madeira currently applies a fiscal differential of 30% compared to mainland Portugal on all nine IRS brackets. This tax benefit is in effect for all Madeiran taxpayers.

This 30% differential represents the maximum limit allowed by the Regional Finance Law. In other words, the region is already using the full fiscal margin conferred to it by law.

With this decision, Madeira maintains its fiscal conditions unchanged, continuing to offer its residents more favorable taxation compared to the mainland, within the legally established limits.
