The Roman Villa of São Cucufate, located in Vila de Frades, in the municipality of Vidigueira, reached the Grand Final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, representing Baixo Alentejo in this initiative to promote national heritage. The monument, with about two thousand years of history, is considered one of the most relevant archaeological testimonies of the Roman presence in Portugal.
The journey to the Grand Final was marked by several stages, with the candidacy first securing a place in the Regional Final and then overcoming the National Semi-Final. The mobilization of the local and regional community was intense, with dissemination work, content production, photographs, videos and promotion actions for the monument and the region.
The organization appeals to the participation of all Alentejoans and Portuguese people in the final voting phase. The candidacy aims to transform this presence in the final into an opportunity to promote not only the heritage of Vila de Frades and Vidigueira, but also the identity and heritage of all of Baixo Alentejo and the Alentejo region, with the slogan "For two thousand years making History."
The Grand Final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal takes place on the 12th, in Sintra, at a gala with live broadcast by TVI. The expectation is centered on the mobilization of all Portuguese people to support what is one of the major historical and archaeological references of Baixo Alentejo.
