The Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim and Casino Barrière Póvoa formalized this Wednesday the renewal of the partnership that returns the literary prize of 25 thousand euros to the Correntes d'Escritas festival, now with a new name. The signing of the protocol took place in the Noble Hall of the Town Hall and marks the return of a historic connection between the municipality's main cultural event and the casino.
The mayor, Andrea Silva, highlighted that the Barrière Group proved very willing to support culture in Póvoa de Varzim and be part of community life. Andrea Silva stated that resuming the prize is a cause of great satisfaction and admitted that this relationship may be the opening of doors for other future partnerships.
The prize, which returns in the 2027 edition after a year of absence, will now be called Prémio Casino Barrière Póvoa. The casino's general director, Heitor Freitas, expressed pride in participating in cultural events of this level, stating that they are very happy to support Correntes d'Escritas and to be part of the Póvoa community's life.
With this signing, the Municipality and Casino Barrière Póvoa consolidate a partnership that returns to Correntes d'Escritas one of the most valued literary prizes in the country, reinforcing the new concessionaire's presence in the city's cultural landscape.
