The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, stated today in parliament that 16 roads remain closed and four others remain under restriction, eight months after the storms in January and February. The minister explained that these roads require interventions considered very complex.
Miguel Pinto Luz was heard by the Special Committee for National Resilience, Disaster Prevention and Monitoring of the Portugal Transformation, Recovery and Resilience Plan, in Lisbon. This hearing aimed to take stock of the situation regarding the impacts of the bad weather that affected the country at the beginning of the year.
The minister highlighted that the closed roads require particularly difficult reconstruction work, which explains the delay in their reopening. Although eight months have already passed since the climatic events, the recovery work has not yet been completed.
This situation affects several regions of the country that were severely hit by winter storms, leaving populations isolated and forcing long alternative detours.
