Eight teenagers were apprehended on Monday night (7th) inside a mall on Avenida das Américas in Barra da Tijuca, in the Southwest Zone of Rio, after employees from two stores called the Military Police due to reports of theft and vandalism. According to the police, merchandise valued at approximately R$ 440 was recovered. One of the teenagers had an outstanding search and seizure warrant.
Social media reports indicate that, given the confusion, mall patrons feared it was a mass robbery. However, the police report that the 31st BPM (Recreio dos Bandeirantes) was called to respond to a theft incident at the commercial center and that, when the officers arrived, part of the group had already been contained by the mall's security guards.
