The Roundabout Tribute to the Volunteer Firefighters was inaugurated in Vendas Novas, a project promoted by the Parish Council in collaboration with the Municipality, which aims to perpetuate the identity and legacy of a Fire Brigade that celebrates 100 years of existence. The new public space constitutes a tribute to all those who, across generations, dedicated their time, courage and sense of mission to serving the community.
The Mayor of Vendas Novas, Ricardo Videira, considered the 100 years of the Humanitarian Association an extraordinary milestone, stating that the firefighters are those who served, serve and will continue to serve the community in an incredible way. The mayor emphasized that any tribute made to them will always be insufficient given what they deserve.
The President of the Board of the Humanitarian Association, Vítor Gatinho, stated that seeing this monument born in the centenary year is a great honour, expressing the wish that this milestone endures over time and keeps alive the memory of those who served, inspiring future generations.
Commander Paulo Machado acknowledged that motivating young people to join the Association continues to be a challenge, but expressed confidence in the future, highlighting the importance of awareness-raising actions with businesses and schools. Currently, the active corps is made up of 70 members, and attracting new members is one of the corporation's main priorities.
