The European Commission approved the granting of 114 million euros to Spain to address the crisis that Ceuta has been experiencing since the end of July. This aid is presented as a gesture of "solidarity" on the part of the European institution.
The amount will be destined for financing border surveillance and protection measures, as well as the reception and return of people. The objective is to reinforce operational capacity at Spanish borders.
The European agencies Frontex, Europol and EUAA will reinforce their operational support to local authorities in Ceuta, increasing the assistance available to manage the situation at the southern Spanish border.
