A false narrative has been circulating on social media alleging that 55% of those who died in Auschwitz were Christians, creating a historical distortion about the victims of the Nazi concentration camp.
This narrative excludes the fact that many Jews were killed before formal death records existed, meaning that the real number of Jewish victims is significantly higher than what the documents indicate.
According to historical data, the number of Jews killed in Auschwitz is around one million people, representing the vast majority of the camp's victims.
The disinformation has the effect of hiding the reality of the Holocaust, minimising the specific dimension of the persecution and genocide of the Jewish people during the Second World War.
