The main challenges and opportunities facing the wine sectors of Madeira and the Azores were discussed at a meeting held this Wednesday, as part of a visit to the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The meeting was attended by the president of the Institute of Vine and Wine of the Azores, Cláudio José Gomes Lopes.
During the meeting, fundamental issues for both island territories were addressed, namely the enhancement of regional productions and the preservation of traditional grape varieties. The officials shared common concerns related to sustainability and product quality.
Product certification and the promotion of island-origin wines were also central themes of the debate. Both archipelagos face similar challenges as wine-producing regions in an island context, which makes cooperation between them particularly relevant for the development of the sector.
This initiative represents a strengthening of cooperation between Madeira and the Azores in the wine sector, enabling the exchange of experiences and good practices between two regions that share geographical characteristics and similar challenges in the production and enhancement of their wines.
