With candidacy blocked by TRE, Eduardo Cunha says he will continue his campaign: 'I will be on the ballot'

Former Chamber of Deputies speaker Eduardo Cunha (Republicanos) announced that he will continue his campaign for federal deputy from Minas Gerais, even after having his candidacy rejected by the Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais (TRE-MG). The decision was announced by Cunha in a video posted on Instagram, where he stated that he "will be on the ballot" and that the issue will be taken to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

TRE-MG rejected Cunha's candidacy registration arguing that the former deputy must remain ineligible until 2027. This ineligibility stems from the removal of his federal deputy mandate from Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and his conviction for administrative impropriety by the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ).

The court also mentioned irregularities found in the alleged allocation of parliamentary amendments made by Cunha. According to TRE-MG, the decision does not prevent the campaign from continuing, which may proceed until the TSE rules on the case.

She highlighted that smaller entities, such as parish councils, raise greater concerns regarding this new law. She also warned about the problem of long-term contracts, whose impact affects future generations and which, according to the official, are not being safeguarded by the current system.
