Six years ago, a forest fire destroyed two illegal shelters in Santo Tirso, resulting in the death of 93 animals. The flames consumed the facilities where the animals were located, without it being possible to save them.
The trial of the defendants related to this case takes place this afternoon, when the sentence will be known. The legal proceedings focus on more than 200 crimes of animal abuse, related to the conditions in which the animals lived in these illegal shelters.
The authorities investigated the circumstances of the fire and the conditions of the shelters, which operated without the necessary licenses. The gravity of the violations led to the high number of charges against those responsible for the facilities.
