The regional governments of Madeira and the Azores reinforced cooperation in the insular wine sector during a meeting held on Wednesday, as part of the visit to the Region by the president of the Wine and Vineyard Institute. The meeting was attended by the officials responsible for the wine sectors of both autonomous regions.
The main challenges and opportunities for the wine sectors of the two islands were discussed, with particular focus on the enhancement of regional productions. Issues such as the preservation of traditional grape varieties, sustainability, quality and certification of products, as well as the promotion of wines of insular origin were addressed.
The meeting takes place in the context of a joint effort to strengthen the position of Portuguese island wines in the market, recognizing the added value derived from production in insular territories and the unique identity of their grape varieties.
