Gasoline and diesel already exceed 2 euros: DECO PROteste wants a greater cut in ISP and direct support for families

SAPO9 September 2026 at 13:16

The prices of gasoline and diesel have already exceeded 2 euros, according to data cited by DECO PROteste. This consumer defense organization considers that this situation is significantly affecting the purchasing power of Portuguese families.

DECO PROteste argues that the Government should go beyond the so-called fiscal neutrality and directly assume part of the effort to contain prices through public expenditure. That is, instead of just keeping taxes stable, the executive should actively reduce taxes on fuels or directly subsidize consumers.

Specifically, the organization is calling for a greater cut in the ISP, the Special Tax on Petroleum Products, which applies to fuels. This measure aims to reduce the final price paid by consumers at the pumps.

DECO PROteste emphasizes that during periods of strong price increases, direct support for families is essential to protect the most vulnerable citizens from the effects of fuel inflation.
