The Portuguese State acquired a 13.7% position in REN (Rede Elétrica Nacional), intending to use this participation to accelerate investments in the electricity grid and the connection processes for new renewable energy production units.
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, associated this State acquisition with the need to boost the energy transition and ensure greater speed in the grid connection processes.
With this position in REN, the government also intends to contribute to reducing electricity prices for consumers, through more efficient investments in grid infrastructure.
The acquisition comes in the context of national objectives for expanding renewable energies and modernizing the Portuguese electricity system.
