Danuza Alves, a doctor accustomed to following patients with lipedema, decided to investigate a suspicion that had already been part of her own history. When she underwent a mapping of her legs and thighs with radiologist Marília Maia, she discovered changes consistent with grade 2 lipedema, concentrated in the thighs. The experience placed her, for the first time, on the other side of the consultation: instead of evaluating the signs presented by someone else, she was the one undergoing the clinical investigation.
Medical director of Clínica Leger Porto Alegre, Danuza knows the manifestations of the condition and the complaints that usually bring patients to her office well. Even so, she had been postponing her own evaluation. She revealed that she had always suspected she might have lipedema, but only managed to finally schedule the exam with colleague Marília Maia, who is part of the clinic's team.
