Government wants to strengthen fight against child marriages. Group has six months to propose measures

The government intends to strengthen the fight against child marriages in Portugal. A multidisciplinary working group has been created that will have 182 days, equivalent to six months, to develop a set of recommendations and proposals on this matter.

This group will have as its main mission to propose legislative changes and make public policy proposals to prevent and combat marriages of minors. The six-month deadline aims to allow for in-depth analysis and the development of concrete measures.

The initiative comes in the context of a broader commitment to protect children's rights and prevent practices that may harm the development and well-being of minors. Portugal has been dealing with cases of child marriages, particularly in specific communities in the country.
