The National Communications Authority (ANACOM) registered 121 complaints related to digital services in the second quarter of 2026, a 195% increase compared to the same period last year. This was the fourth consecutive quarter of significant growth in complaints about these services.
The suspension, restriction or removal of accounts or content by platforms, for alleged violations of the law or their respective terms and conditions, was the main reason cited by users, accounting for 68% of the total with 82 occurrences. Complaints regarding the reporting of illegal content totaled 20 cases (17% of the total), doubling compared to the same period last year, while complaint handling processes resulted in 13 occurrences (11% of the total), an 86% increase.
Meta's platforms concentrated more than half of the complaints registered between April and June. Facebook was the most targeted service, with 30% of the total, followed by Instagram with 25%. Platform X represented 7% of complaints and Google 6%. The majority of complaints focused on very large online platforms, which concentrated 69% of cases.
During the second quarter, ANACOM referred 53 complaints with evidence of infringement of the Digital Services Regulation to other Digital Services Coordinators. The majority were forwarded to Ireland, which received 43 complaints, with the remaining cases referred to the homologous authorities of the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Spain.
