Logistics company MRS, a railway transport concessionaire, was fined last Friday after a significant amount of iron ore dust reached homes in high-end condominiums in the Sahy neighborhood in Mangaratiba, in the Costa Verde region of Rio de Janeiro state.
Technicians from the local Environment Secretary, called by residents, found irregularities in the transport and storage of the product. During the inspection, three company trains were examined and, in one of the compositions, the team found raw iron ore being transported without tarpaulin or any other type of protection.
At the time of the action, the material was also observed being intensely carried by the wind and launched into areas near the condominiums. The dust reached swimming pools, common areas, water fountains and even children's spaces in the homes.
In one of the condominiums, the leisure space needed to be closed due to the contamination caused by the iron ore dust.
