The 1st Criminal Court of the Capital confirmed that gambling boss Rogério de Andrade will stand trial by jury for the murder of Fernando de Miranda Iggnacio, killed by rifle fire in November 2020, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro. Gilmar Eneas Lisboa was also indicted, accused of monitoring the victim's routine before the crime. The Court maintained the preventive detention of both defendants.
According to the indictment by GAECO/MPRJ, the homicide was motivated by the dispute between Rogério and Fernando over control of illegal gambling operations. The investigation indicates that Rogério de Andrade ordered Márcio Araújo de Souza, a member of his criminal organization and a trusted associate, to organize the execution.
Fernando was shot with a rifle after disembarking from a helicopter at a helipad in Recreio dos Bandeirantes. The criminals waited for the victim for approximately four hours on a lot next to the parking lot of the location.
The case went through various twists and turns in the courts. Rogério de Andrade was indicted by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro for the crime in 2021, but the case moved through different instances until reaching the current decision to indict for trial by jury.
