The European Commission presented a proposal that establishes the conditions under which European Union Member States may limit local accommodation. According to the proposal, these limitations will only be permitted if local accommodation is worsening housing pressure in the respective regions.
The proposal creates a common framework to assess whether certain restrictive measures are compatible with European Union law. This framework aims to harmonize the criteria used by different countries when deciding to regulate the local accommodation sector.
The initiative will still need to be debated and approved by Member States and MEPs before entering into force. This legislative process may involve amendments to the European Commission's original proposal.
