Back to school: PSPV-PSOE accuses PP of sending 100,000 students back to class without resolving air conditioning in schools: "They have left schools and institutes exposed to the elements"

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General9 September 2026 at 11:47

Approximately 100,000 students in the province of Castelló returned to class on Wednesday without the Generalitat having resolved the air conditioning problem in educational centers. The start of the school year was thus marked by this controversy, with students returning to schools without adequate temperature conditions.

The socialist spokesperson for Education in the Corts Valencianes, José Luis Lorenz, harshly criticized the PP government's actions. According to Lorenz, the regional government had all summer to anticipate and advance the necessary works, but did not do so.

The socialist representative stated that "they left schools and institutes exposed to the elements," pointing out that this is an issue that repeats every year when the hot months arrive. Air conditioning in educational centers is therefore a recurring problem affecting thousands of students.

The PSPV-PSOE's accusation comes in the context of the start of the school year, when still high temperatures in the Valencian Community make the functioning of air conditioning systems essential. The socialist party directly holds the regional government responsible for not having used the school vacation period to resolve a situation that affects thousands of students.
