Liberals pressure Government to accelerate autonomous car tests

The parliamentary group of the Liberal Initiative recommended to the Portuguese Government that it authorize autonomous driving tests in Portugal, following the example of countries such as France, Belgium, or Denmark. The liberals propose that the Executive, in coordination with the IMT, promote authorization for testing Tesla Full Self-Driving technology already approved by the RDW in the Netherlands, and that it recognize approvals from other EU Member States. The IL argues that the EU has wasted opportunities in this area, falling behind China and the USA, and that the existence of national regulation should not prevent recognition of solutions already authorized in other European countries, at the risk of placing Portugal at a disadvantage. The Government of Luís Montenegro has not yet publicly expressed any position on the matter.
