The company that created ChatGPT revealed the progress as a significant achievement in the field of artificial intelligence and mathematics.

The revelation immediately generated controversy in the scientific community. Mathematicians questioned the veracity and methodology used by OpenAI to reach this conclusion, raising doubts about the legitimacy of the claimed solution.

Two mathematicians were identified as having made significant progress on this mathematical problem before OpenAI's announcement. The situation became more complex due to allegations that the company may have used data and research findings from these mathematicians without prior authorization to develop its own work.

The episode highlights the growing tensions between technology companies and the academic community, particularly regarding the use of scientific research for commercial purposes. University of Coimbra participates in international study on AI and people management
