Pisa 2025. Portuguese students worsen results, falling back to the beginning of the century

The results of Portugal in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) reveal a significant deterioration in the performance of Portuguese students. According to the data presented, Portuguese students fell back to early century levels in all assessed areas.

In the international comparison involving 90 countries, Portugal achieved 29th place in Science, 26th place in Reading, and 30th place in Mathematics. These positions represent a decline compared to results obtained in previous editions of the program.

PISA is coordinated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and assesses the competencies of 15-year-old students in three main areas: science, reading, and mathematics. The 2025 results confirm the declining trend of the Portuguese education system in international comparisons.
