The 3rd edition of the International Architecture Days of the Algarve (JIAA) will take place at the Teatro Municipal António Pinheiro, in Tavira, on September 18 and 19. Over two days, architects, legal experts, academics, magistrates and other specialists will discuss current and relevant topics for architectural practice, combining disciplinary reflection with the profound legislative changes that have been transforming design, licensing and construction processes in Portugal.
The 2026 edition opens with the work and legacy of Oscar Niemeyer, through a reflection on the relevance of his thinking today and the capacity of architecture to remain culturally significant beyond its time. Recent amendments to the applicable legal framework for architecture and urbanism will also be discussed, particularly within the scope of the so-called Urbanistic Simplex, promoting a discussion on its effects on architects' activity, public administration, quality of projects and the transformation of the territory itself.
On the second day, the focus will be on the new regulatory framework resulting from Portaria n.º 320/2026. A toolkit developed to provide architects with useful instruments for the daily exercise of the profession will also be presented.
For the Algarve Regional Section of the Order of Architects, organizer of the event, this also reinforces the importance of creating, in the Algarve, regular moments of qualified discussion on architecture, legislation, territory and professional practice.
