Middle East Conflict: night marked by US-Iran attacks and oil exceeds 100 dollars

SAPO Notícias9 September 2026 at 10:04

The escalation between the United States and Iran intensified during the night, marking a new chapter in the Middle East conflict. Washington announced the destruction of five Iranian oil tankers, in an operation that represents a significant escalation of military tensions between the two countries.

In turn, Iran claimed attacks on American ships and oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic maritime routes for oil transport worldwide. This region has been the scene of multiple incidents in recent months.

The repercussions of these attacks were not long in coming on international markets. The price of oil exceeded 100 dollars per barrel, reflecting fears of a disruption in crude oil supply through one of the world's most important oil routes.

The Strait of Hormuz is a fundamental passage for world oil trade, and any escalation of violence in the region has a direct impact on global energy prices. This situation arises at a time of great geopolitical instability in the Gulf region.
