Miguel Marreiros, businessman and founder of All-Star Recruits USA, launched a solidarity campaign on the GoFundMe platform to help athlete Francisco Calhau, national shot put champion in July. The campaign was created with the knowledge and consent of the athlete's family.
Francisco Calhau, 21 years old and athlete for Sporting CP, suffered a serious accident at a swimming pool in September, having his mobility significantly affected. The businessman states that the accident did not only affect the athlete, but his entire family, who now faces a new reality and a long road to recovery.
According to Miguel Marreiros, the athlete will need ongoing care and support, including treatments and rehabilitation, specialized physiotherapy, medical and mobility equipment, a wheelchair and other adapted equipment. The family may also need to make home adaptations, find suitable transportation solutions and possibly acquire or adapt a vehicle.
