Winegrowers in the Douro region are living a situation described as "dramatic" and are demanding structural solutions for the crisis they face. Last week, the Government approved in a cabinet meeting support of around 12 million euros for producers who, this harvest season, cannot sell their production. Prime Minister Luís Montenegro was present in São João da Pesqueira, at the opening of Vindouro, to defend this extraordinary aid measure for the Douro region. The support specifically aims to compensate small producers who lack the capacity to sell their production. According to Montenegro, the support is intended for those who "cannot vinify the grapes, nor sell to a commercial producer and, therefore, are prevented from making a profit from their work."
