The Lisbon Stock Exchange opened this Wednesday's session, September 9, with a gain of 0.12% to 9,492.30 points, thus managing to defy the negative trend of the main European stock exchanges. This positive performance occurs on the eve of a European Central Bank meeting that will define the course of interest rates.
Among the biggest gains on the Portuguese stock exchange, Galp Energia stands out, which gained 1.61% to 21.43 euros, EDP Renováveis with a rise of 0.99% to 13.32 euros, and EDP which advanced 0.89% to 4.78 euros. Altri, REN, Mota-Engil, Sonae, NOS, Navigator, Semapa and CTT also posted gains. Conversely, Banco Comercial Português fell 0.68% to 1.16 euros, Ibersol dropped 0.59% to 10.08 euros, and Jerónimo Martins slipped 0.43% to 18.34 euros.
The main European stock exchanges opened in the red, with Germany's DAX breaking down 0.41% to 25,885.32 points, France's CAC 40 slipping 0.64% to 8,265.11 points, and the UK's FTSE 100 falling 0.27% to 10,782.87 points. Spain's IBEX 35 recorded the biggest drop, with a decline of 0.92% to 19,812.63 points.
The price of oil continues to rise, with Brent approaching 100 dollars as it rose 1.61% to 99.50 dollars, and crude gaining 1.41% to 94.34 dollars. The euro rose 0.15% against the dollar to 1.16444 dollars and broke down 0.05% against the pound to 0.85855 pounds.
