The Junta de Andalucía took a decisive step toward the demolition of the Algarrobico hotel, 20 years after the works were halted. The regional executive initiated proceedings to restore territorial legality, meaning the demolition of the building and the recovery of protected soils.
The Ayuntamiento de Carboneras, in Almería, agreed to suspend the license that had been granted to the developer in 2003, which allowed the regional government to trigger the process.
The measure will be executed in collaboration with the central executive, through an agreement for the distribution of costs and work that is set out in a convention signed between both administrations.
