Tuesday's Quaest poll revealed a significant phenomenon in the race for governor of Rio de Janeiro. Anthony Garotinho (Republicanos), who appears in third place in first-round voting intentions with 8%, is the main second choice among voters of the two candidates leading the electoral race: Eduardo Paes (PSD) and Douglas Ruas (PL).
Among Paes's voters, who leads with 39% of voting intentions, Garotinho is mentioned as a second option by 17% of them, representing a growth of two percentage points compared to the previous poll from late August. Among Ruas's supporters, who have 18% of voting intentions, Garotinho totals 16% as an alternative, with a significant increase of seven percentage points.
On the other hand, Garotinho's own voters, whose candidacy awaits judgment in Electoral Court, show a strong inclination toward Paes as their second option. This voter movement could be decisive in the runoff, should the former governor's candidacy be invalidated.
