A cold front crosses mainland Portugal this Wednesday, September 9, bringing instability during the night and early morning. According to the Luso Meteo forecast, periods of weak and passing rain are expected, especially in the North and Centre regions. Precipitation should quickly lose intensity, with good clear spells from mid-morning onwards and generally partly cloudy skies during the afternoon, with no precipitation expected for the rest of the day.

The passage of the cold front will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius, both in highs and lows. In the interior, some locations may approach 10 degrees during the night and early morning, while in the South peak temperatures may still reach 32 to 33 degrees. In mountainous areas, cloud cover may persist for somewhat longer.

The wind should blow generally from the northwest, weak to moderate, but may intensify during the afternoon on the coast and in the highlands, with occasional gusts up to 55 km/h, decreasing again by the end of the day.

The temperature drop should be brief. Portugal will progressively come under greater anticyclonic influence, with more stable weather, lots of sun and a new rise in temperatures at the end of the week. The trend will once again be dry and warm weather, with conditions once again close to summer in several regions.

Unusual heat made Nepal glacier collapse and cause deadly avalanche, scientist says

Scientists analyzed meteorological data showing that a section of the mountain in Nepal, whose landslide triggered deadly floods in China and Nepal on August 26, experienced unprecedented heat for this time of year. Average temperatures on the glacier at 5,200 meters altitude were estimated at around 5°C between August 21 and 26, an exceptionally high value, as in more than 55 years of records thermometers did not exceed 4°C in the same period.
