The Quartz Museum is located on Monte de Santa Luzia, on the outskirts of Viseu. This site also houses the Galopim de Carvalho Interpretation Centre, which was inaugurated in 2012.

Professor Galopim de Carvalho is a prominent figure associated with this museum and interpretation centre. His name was given to the interpretive space as a tribute to his contribution to the field of geology and mineralogy.

The excavations carried out on the site made it possible to prove that quartz extraction on Monte de Santa Luzia occurred from the Bronze and Iron Ages, demonstrating the long tradition of mineral extraction in this territory.

This archaeological discovery reinforces the historical and heritage importance of the site, justifying the creation of the museum and interpretative centre dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of this geological and archaeological heritage.
