China defended today that its investments in Peru are "transparent" and respect local legislation, responding to accusations made by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
Marco Rubio had accused projects supported by Beijing of threatening transparency and data security in Peru.
China's response comes in the context of diplomatic tensions between Beijing and Washington regarding Chinese economic influence in Latin America.
Chinese investments in Peru have been under scrutiny by the United States, which expresses concerns about national security and data protection in projects funded by China in the region.
