Nicolas Cage's oceanfront mansion in Malibu, California, suffered significant damage after a huge crater destroyed part of the property's entrance and advanced onto a stretch of the street. The hole, estimated at about 9 by 9 meters, was caused by a strong swell that hit the region on Tuesday. No one was injured in the incident.
Firefighters were called to respond to a suspected gas pipe rupture, but upon arriving at the scene they found the mansion's entrance collapsed. The gas company was also called and was working on repairing the damaged pipe.
Images from the scene show the asphalt and concrete of the garage access area completely broken apart. Part of the street also gave way, while a portable toilet installed on the property was dragged into the crater.
