The president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Edson Fachin, gave a 72-hour deadline for Minister André Mendonça to respond to a request from the Attorney General's Office (AGU). The request is against Mendonça's decision that provisionally removed the Federal Police Director General, Andrei Rodrigues, and the Police Intelligence Director of the corporation, Leandro Almada.
The dispatch was signed on Tuesday. Fachin determined that, after Mendonça's response, the case return to the STF Presidency for analysis. The request was filed by the AGU hours after Mendonça's decision.
In the appeal, the Union pointed out a contradiction in the handling of the case by the minister. The AGU recalled that Mendonça himself had previously indicated that the matter warranted analysis by the full STF, but later submitted the removals to the endorsement of the Second Panel.
The AGU also argued that Mendonça preempted a procedure already opened by Fachin to investigate the same facts. Last week, the STF president had opened an investigation into the operation that resulted in the removal of the Federal Police directors.
