The Minister of Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, stated today that he expects "at least a balanced budget" for public accounts in 2026. In an interview with Sic Notícias, the government official indicated that, should a surplus occur, it "will always be relatively small," expecting to obtain "at most a balanced budget" for public accounts.
Joaquim Miranda Sarmento guaranteed that the country has "the necessary robustness" to apply the pensioner supplement and IRS relief, demonstrating confidence in the Executive's financial capacity to implement these measures.
