Santiago Mouriño harshly criticized the refereeing decision in the match between Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal. The Uruguayan central defender considered that the penalty awarded against him in the 84th minute was unfair and directly influenced the result of the match.
The controversial play happened during a corner kick when Italian referee Simone Sozza pointed to the penalty spot. Mouriño was penalized for holding forward Guirassy, a decision that generated intense protests from Villarreal's players.
The yellow defender argued that the referee ignored a prior hold by the forward himself before his action, punishing only his response. According to Mouriño, the referee felt pressured by the stadium atmosphere and ended up awarding the penalty against his team.
