Minister Gilmar Mendes of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) defended that the analysis of the removal of the Federal Police director, André Rodrigues, should be done in a plenary session and not in the court's second panel. Earlier, he requested a view (pause for consideration) in the trial to endorse the single-judge decision by André Mendonça, who had determined the removal.
In his vote, Gilmar Mendes stated that the impact of the removal decision may cause imbalances in the political-electoral dispute. This statement served to justify the view request, which is the additional time granted for a more thorough analysis of the case.
According to the court's rules, a view request can last up to 90 days, but the expectation is that the return by Gilmar Mendes will occur within a much shorter timeframe. The minister himself expressed interest in returning the case quickly.
Gilmar Mendes's statement also aims to pressure for the case to be brought to the full STF, where all ministers will participate in the decision, instead of being decided solely by the second panel.
